If you’re considering whisking the kids away on a holiday, you might want to look at what Tuscany in Italy has to offer. The region is perfect for both active pursuits and sightseeing, ensuring no one will get bored during a stay here.
You could start your outdoor adventure in the Park of Pratolino in Florence, where your youngsters can soak up some sun and enjoy plenty of fresh air. This is in fact one of the best parks to be found in this part of Tuscany and is home to lots of conker trees – providing great entertainment for littler ones – as well as a big aviary and the Maschera Fishpond, which can be used as a pool for hot baths.
To continue your active Tuscan adventure, head to Pisa. While this part of the country is perhaps most well-known for the Leaning Tower, there are other attractions to take in.
You could charter a boat and go to the Parco Naturale Migliarino san Rossore Massaciuccoli. Here, you can engage in bird-watching, horse riding and cycling, among other pursuits.
You could also visit Mugello, where you will find a number of lakes ideal for fishing, while Bilancino Lake in Barberino di Mugello has provisions for canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and swimming.
Want to fully explore Florence? You will find that there’s plenty on offer in this art and architecture-rich city for both adults and kids.
For example, the Palazzo Strozzi – a cube-shaped structure dating back to the 15th century – hosts a number of art shows and exhibitions that include child-friendly information and other elements to ensure all the family can learn from them.
You should also try to make time for a trip to Pistoia, which is situated close to Florence. Pistoia Zoo is a popular attraction for kids thanks to the hundreds of animals it is home to. Representatives of over 100 species can be glimpsed here, and if you’re in the area in the summer, you can go on Moonlight Zoo guided walks that enable you to spot some of the animals that don’t come out during the day.
The Parco di Pinocchio is also another site that will definitely hold interest for young people. Here, you will find a series of bronze characters from Carlo Lorenzini’s classic tale, as well as live shows, a maze, face painting at the weekends and a mechanical puppet theatre.
Regardless of what you choose to do, you and your family are sure to have a wonderful time on child-friendly holidays in Tuscany.
